Finding A Doctor

While transgender healthcare was becoming more recognized, not all doctors were supportive of their transgender patients. Corrective treatments were still common. The nascent transgender community began collecting and sharing information on transpositive doctors through periodicals and newsletters.

Significant here was the Erickson Educational Foundation. Founded by the philanthropic trans man Reed Erickson, the EEF printed brochures on transgender subjects for both transgender people and their loved ones. The role of the EEF in early transgender activism cannot be overstated, with its funding helping to support many groups, including what would become the World Professional Association of Transgender Health, the leading body on transgender healthcare in the world.
