Activists Against DelistingThe delisting brought the Ontario transgender community together in a new way. It birthed activists who were not political before. The community was under attack and they mobilized in response. They had been forced to go through the dehumanizing and demoralizing practices at the Clarke, only to have their access to transition related surgeries taken from them at the last minute.
These are some examples of the ways that transgender people mobilized in response to the delisting of surgery. The buttons were created by Mirha-Soleil Ross to advocate for transgender people. The photo comes from the 2004 Toronto Pride Parade where a group carried signs for the Return Transsexual Surgery Fund. |
